Going through Piazza delle Erbe in Verona it is almost impossible not to look up to admire the very unique group of buildings that overlook the north side of the square. Bizarre and picturesque, just like the SM Marble – Mazzanti<\/a> material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ancient traditions, new inspirations: from Verona<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To realise this unique material, Santamargherita got its inspiration from the typical houses of this Venetian city. Coloured granules stand out on the light background of the marble, just like the frescoes that covered the houses in Verona in the 16th and 17th centuries. At that time, the fa\u00e7ades of the most important families were usually decorated with frescoes. This feature became so common that Verona was given the name \u201cUrbs picta\u201d, painted city. Mazzanti\u2019s homes are among the oldest buildings in the city and hold the record as the palace boasting the greatest number of frescoes. Unfortunately, today, due to exposure to the weather and pollution, many representations have been lost. Others, however, have been taken down from the walls they were built on and put on display in museums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
