With the outbreak of the Coronavirus emergency, even sports lovers had to adapt to the rules of social distancing and safety. It is not always possible to go out for a jog with peace of mind, and not everyone likes running. For this reason, many have chosen to keep fit at home and have devoted a small space in a room. In certain cases, it was something they had been meaning to do for some time but never found free time to create their own home-based fitness area. They just kept putting it off or were sceptical about the possible results. Creating a small gym at home is actually not that difficult and can be the perfect way to commit constantly to physical activity. Furnish it according to your needs and, who knows, it may become an essential space also in the future.

Choosing the room

To choose the right room where to set up a gym, one also has to look at certain basic criteria. First of all, you need to have a room that is large enough to move around while exercising. You do not necessarily need to dedicate an entire room, but you definitely need a bit of space to work out safely. The gym must also be set up in a part of the house that has a lot of light and a window, which is essential for ventilation. As for the floor, it is better to choose a room with a fitted carpet or parquet, protected with rubber mats where necessary.

A fitness corner

This space doesn’t need to be particularly big, all you need is a corner where you can use the equipment and items you need to keep fit. The equipment to use varies according to the type of training. For Yoga – but also for floor exercises – you just need a mat and a mirror to check your movements. In this case, the space used will be truly minimal since the mat can be rolled up after exercising.

On the other hand, if you want to set up a gym with machinery such as a treadmill, exercise bike and bench, you need a whole room.

In certain cases, it simply involves putting certain machinery inside a room; in others, the room has to be changed more radically. For example, think of those who like boxing: if you want to hang the punch bag from the ceiling, you will have to drill a hole. The same applies if you want to wall-mount a TRX.

All you need to do is start setting up your gym!
